6 Most Popular Cocktails

Everybody knows that Arnold Palmer drinks an Arnold Palmer, and Shirley Temple drinks a Shirley Temple, but how often do you come across those guys? There aren’t yet celebrity cocktail names for the following drinks, but based on their popularity with some very famous people, you could one day walk into a bar and ask for a dozen Oprahs, and the bartender wouldn’t give you a funny look.

Mojito

WHO DRINKS IT: Paris Hilton

THE RECIPE:

  • 5 fresh mint leaves
  • ½ lime, cut into 4 wedges
  • 2 Tbsp. white sugar
  • 2 oz. white rum
  • 1.5 oz. club soda

TO PREPARE:

Muddle the mint leaves, sugar, and lime juice. Add crushed ice. Stir in the rum, then top off with club soda. Garnish with mint sprig. The official recipe, as per the International Bartenders Association, calls for 6 mint leaves. Evidently that’s too much for Ms. Hilton.

 Margarita

WHO DRINKS IT: Jennifer Aniston

THE RECIPE:

  • 1 ½ oz. tequila
  • 1 oz. lime juice
  • ½ oz. Cointreau

TO PREPARE:

 Bourbon Sour

  • 2 oz. bourbon whiskey
  • 1 oz. lemon juice
  • ½ tsp. superfine sugar

 Lemon Drop Martini

  • ½ oz. Grand Marnier
  • 1 tsp. superfine sugar
  • ¾ oz. lemon juice

TO PREPARE:

Mix vodka, orange liqueur, sugar, and lemon juice in a shaker half-filled with ice. Shake well. Pour into sugar-rimmed martini glass. Garnish with a twisted peel of lemon.

 Cool as a Cucumber

WHO DRINKS IT: George Clooney

THE RECIPE:

  • 2 oz. white rum
  • 1 oz. cucumber-cilantro syrup
  • Frozen cucumber and lime slices
  • Crushed ice
  • Club soda

TO PREPARE:

Fill an old-fashioned glass ¼ full with crushed ice. Add cucumber-cilantro syrup and rum. Top off with club soda. Put in cucumber and lime slices. Garnish with lime slice and cilantro.

 Hurricane

WHO DRINKS IT: Laura Prepon (“Donna,” from That ’70s Show)

THE RECIPE:

  • 2 oz. light rum
  • 2 oz. dark rum
  • 2 oz. passion fruit juice
  • 1 oz. orange juice
  • ½ lime (squeezed)
  • 1 Tbsp. simple syrup
  • 1 Tbsp. grenadine

TO PREPARE:

Squeeze lime juice into a shaker over ice. Pour in remaining ingredients. Shake well. Strain into hurricane class. Garnish with cherry and orange slice.

If these celebs become any more associated with their favorite drinks, the drink may end up getting named after them. So, one day you could walk into a bar and order 12 Oprahs, and the bartender just might pour a tray full of Lemon Drops for you without batting an eye. Of course, if you’re all alone, and ordering a dozen martinis, you might get that funny look…
